El Mercado 6 Year Anniversary

Last Friday we made the trek to LA to witness a milestone in the streetwear community. El Mercado was celebrating 6 years of being in business and in this industry and our current economic climate, I'd say that's a damn good reason to throw a party.

Meet Ian. We got in touch with him while working with Elm Company and this was actually our first time meeting him in person. He's the mastermind behind the whole operation and I'm sure he will be first to tell you that being in retail and in streetwear isn't always fun and games. From what he was telling us, there wasn't much reason to celebrate last year in 2008 for their 5 year anniversary due to the economic downturn but now things are starting to look up. He stuck with it, made some sacrifices, and things are buzzing once again.

Coming from the viewpoint of a fellow small business, L&O and Glad Rags Ink would like to tip our hats to Ian and the El Mercado family for doing it big for 6 years, through good times and bad. Much love and respect.

El Mercado was definitely popping that night, and with free beer, good tunes, and $1 tacos I am not surprised!

Ah, refreshments.

Ran into our good friend Ace (DRTY KNUX) right when we got there. He was pretty twisted already and made fun of us for getting lost on our way over. Jerk!

Ian also introduced us to the gentlemen who run 9Grand. We only met briefly but looks like we'll be seeing more of these guys in the near future. Keep an eye out for them, their cut and sew is on point!

Of course, it wouldn't be a party without LA Lemon and Kutters.

We caught up with Garrett and Sifry to discuss some future projects and events. Our brands are like BFF's or something.

Such a clean looking store. Make sure to stop through and support your local shop!

Not a bad way to spend a Friday night in LA.

We are in the midst of planning a special event at El Mercado in early December, so stay tuned for details on that. You won't want to miss this one.
